Haiti DAY TWO

Wednesday, June 22nd:

Day 2-

We will be getting on the 5 am or 6 am depending on if our luggage went straight to the flight today, or if we had to take our luggage to the hotel last night.  I am hoping they kept the luggage so we could sleep an extra hour!

Departure: 7:30 am AA flight # 807 FLL to PAP arrive 8:25 am.  Please pray for safe travels!!!!  I heard that when we land, if there are Haitians on the plane they usually clap when the wheels hit the ground.  I cannot wait to clap with them!

Upon arrival in Haiti we will travel to the guest house where we will be staying and will drop the bags off then head out and will be sight seeing today.  We will be seeing Port-Au-Prince, the devastation of the earthquake and going through the markets.  Please pray for safety as well that we can experience Haiti and see the Haitian people through God's eyes.  I know we will see immense suffering and it will show a lot of different emotions for each team member.

Thank you for following along!

Haiti Departure DAY ONE

Hopefully, this will work!  I work out a day by day plan, because we will not have or have limited internet access while I am away in Haiti.  I thought my family could post these while I am away or I can time them to post themselves, either way, I hope this works!  I am going to be posting what we will be doing in Haiti according to our VERY TENTATIVE itinerary.  PS sorry, if I go from past tense to current tense, it is kind of weird writing right now for in the future :) so thank you for bearing with me.

Day 6

Good morning, afternoon, or evening depending on what time it is for you.  It is 2 hours later in Haiti, they do not follow day light savings, so they are only 2 hours ahead of Seattle time.

7:00 am breakfast- hope its yummy!

10:00 am Church service- I cannot wait!  We just found out that our Pastor, going with us, Jason will be preaching and that we will be apart of it.  We will be doing a skit, how fun!

I received my first pair of TOMS

Woo hoo!  I am so excited that I received my first pair of TOMS!  I was so nervous that they would be too small because I usually wear 7 1/2-8 in all my shoes so going down to a size 7 was scary.  But all the reviews stated to go down a size, so it worked!  They fit perfectly!  The only problem, is that Rudy loves them too!  They are the most comfortable shoes, and I only have been wearing them less than a day!

Haiti Day FOUR

Friday, June 24th:

Day 4-

Wake up for 7:00 am breakfast- please pray for my stomach, as it gets easily upset in America, so pray that it is doing alright.

8:00 am Morning prayer

8:30 am Depart for work site

9:30 am Arrive in Luly for Soccer Clinic (9:30-11am) and Teacher Training (9:30-12:30 pm).  I believe unless the schedule changes that today I will be teaching the teachers and after the training, will be giving my geography lesson to the children.  I am so excited!  We have blow up world globes and children books about the world to go through with them.  I am a HUGE fan of hands on learning and hope to incorporate that successfully with these teachers.  Please pray that I am able to adapt if the children do not understand or that I can have boldness speaking in front of 100 children and 20 adults with a translator.  I will have to be patient waiting for the translator to translate my lesson from English to Creole and to SLOW down and not talk so fast.

The picture below is not of me, but probably a pretty close picture to the building we will be in, minus the chalk board and teacher desk.

1:00 pm work projects

3:00 depart for base

6:00 pm dinner

8:00 pm Evening devotions and prayer

Thanks for following along and for your prayers!

Haiti DAY 3

Thursday, June 23:

Day 3-

Wake up for 7 am breakfast, not sure what that consists of, but I am ready.  Sean and I do not like beans at all, its not like we are allergic, we just think it tastes like nothing and that is tastes like pockets of powder.  I can expect to eat a lot of beans and rice, the staple in Haiti.  And you know what?  I will eat and smile, even  if it is beans!

8:00 morning prayer with the team.  Each morning and evening a different member of our team will do a devotional.  It could be something they experienced in Haiti and will facilitate a discussion of the topic they choose.  They could read scripture, etc.

8:30 depart for work site.  We will arrive at 9:30 am in Luly for the Soccer Clinic (9:30-11 am) and the Teacher Training 9:30-12:30 pm).  I will be helping with the teachers and Sean will be with the Soccer clinic.  I am so proud of him, he is going to be opening the soccer clinic and welcome the kiddos.  That takes a lot of courage to speak first in the group!  Please pray for God to speak through him and that he will speak clear and slow enough for the translator to translate to the kids in Creole.

I will be with the teachers, so please pray that as a team we can love on them and not tell them what they are doing is wrong, but help them in reaching the students and aiding them in what needs they have.

1:00 pm Work Projects.  We have no idea what they will need help with, which is nice because we will have zero expectations.  I am so excited to help Luly (town) with whatever they will need.  Pray for strength and for our health with the extreme heat difference.  Please pray that no one on our team gets sick, or if they do to heal quickly.  I just hope I do not get dirreaha.

3:00 pm depart for base.  I am probably sunburnt by now, so pray for healing :).

6:00 dinner

8:00 pm Evening devotions and prayer.  Please pray for Sean, because when it gets hot he has a hard time sleeping.

Have a great night!

Great Gift Box Idea

I love to follow Paper Source blog to find out about great crafty ideas.  This is perfect if you want to specialize the wrapping of a very sentimental gift or if you just want to spice up your present!  This was made for a graduation gift but as Kristen stated you can design it for anything.  I think this would be perfect for a wedding shower or baby shower gift, even at a wedding!  The coolest thing is that she just used word document to create the fonts!  How simple is that?  I love keeping fun gift boxes or gift bags and this would be a great way to spice them up.

Hope Kristen inspired you!

Checking on my 2011 New Year's Resolutions

I wrote a blog post on January 1st welcoming the new year and also stating my New Year’s resolutions.  Let’s see how I am doing.  The Hello 2011 blog post stated:

1.      Working out (let’s be honest, not so good.  I did join two intramural soccer teams) and that was a workout multiple times a week.  I tried to wii fit, but once I got a job that declined significantly.  But the year is not over yet.  I am still hopeful to work out!

2.      Read my Bible more consistently.  This is still a struggle for me.  It is not like I do not enjoy reading it.  When I did not have a job, I was reading all the time and everyday.  Once employed, it seemed a lot harder, which is silly.  I just need to make more time with the Lord.  I have stayed strong with reading the Devotions for Women on the Go by: Stephen Arterburn and Pam Farrel.  I really enjoy reading it and it is very easy to read while I am brushing my teeth at night.  It is a great reminder to get it out!

3.      To save money!  Sean and I have done a great job at this.  We were crazy, or at least I was in the beginning of the year trying not to spend anything.  We have been a little less crazy, but still have been very conscious about what we buy and if we REALLY need it.  It sucks sometimes, when I wanted to buy something I really liked and it was even on sale!  We do allow ourselves to buy things once a month and that has been nice.  We did trade our iPhones in, Sean eventually got his back and I still do not have mine.  I found out that I did not use mine as much as I thought I did.  Sean on the other hand, died when he gave up his and we saved so he could get one a couple months later.  Oh boys and their toys.  We also cancelled our cable, which I was so excited!  I only watch shows that are accessible online, Sean was bummed because he missed out on his sports.

Has anyone kept their 2011 New Year's Resolutions?  Please share!

I ordered TOMS

I ordered my first pair of TOMS and cannot wait until they arrive.  I really want to wear them in Haiti, so I hope I have time to break them in before.  They are supposed to arrive on Friday and we leave on Tuesday, so if I wear them 24/7 until then I think I will be okay.

WOO HOO!!!  I decided to go with the Red Classic TOMS.  I was in debate between the grey, navy, and Red.  Go bold or go home right?  I can also wear them at work because they are Cougar colors.  I just cannot get enough of the one for one movement.  By me purchasing these pair of shoes, I am helping a child in need, what an amazing idea!  Now, if only I had enough money to give all the children in Haiti shoes....

A Field of Yellow Flowers

Our little family
LOVE this picture of Rudy

Doesn't this make you want to dance in the field?

Actually, I think the field is Canola, but it is still pretty.  I see this field everyday that I drive to work and have been dying to take pictures in it.  I was so happy it was nice on Saturday and took the fam to get pictures taken.  Thanks Sonja for taking them!
