Budgeting...the one word that people hate.  But for us, it is awesome!  Having a successful budget means telling your money where to go.  When you tell your money where to go, you actually get to keep some of it!  Our budget took a couple 'budget meetings' with Sean and I to really determine what was a good budget to set for our family.  We had to consider budgeting for a lot of items that we would buy without thinking about as well as bills that are directly taken out of our accounts.  The most important thing is to be on the same page with your spouse if you are making a budget together.  The more we were on the same page, the happier we were/are go figure!  Here are some things we budgeted for!

(I am not an expert, I am far from it and that is why Sean and I took the class.  We have found a lot of success in dumping our college debt with Dave Ramsey and are sharing it with you!)

Tithing to our church and supporting our friend's ministries
House payment to our mortgage (this could be rent for some people)
House utilities
Wastemangagement: trash, recycling, yard waste
Cell phones
Cable/internet
Groceries
Restaurants
Clothing for Sean
Clothing for me
Gas for cars
Medication
Pocket Money S
Pocket Money H
Toiletries
Entertainment

Non-monthly
Doctor Bills
Dentist
Vitamins
Rudy (exams, nail clipping, etc)
furniture fund
Hair cut
Vacation fund
Car Insurance (every 6 months)
House Insurance (every 6 months)
Family Birthdays
Family Christmas

There is a just a little taste of a very simple budget for us.  You can find some FREE budgeting forms from David Ramsey here that will help to get started.  And also this FREE tool to use.  You can do a quick start budget to get going, a monthly cash flow budget, or an irregular income budget if you do not know how much each month you are taking home.  Love these forms!

Beckman Family Update

It is time for a little Beckman family update.  I have not blogged in forever and feel like I have more of a purpose to be consistent and less sporadic.  I blogged in the past to record important and fun events and now I am still going to do that, but we have some things going on in our lives that I am passionate about and would like to share.  I will also be adding some events that happened in our past but I forgot to share on here.  It will definitely take a couple posts to catch you all up, but I am excited about it!  There will also be more themes on this blog, rather than just talking about and showing pictures of Rudy, we hope to share more about our first year in our new home.  We also took the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University class through our church, Brookview and are stoked to dump debt!  I will go into more detail on this as well.  Anyway, if you are still following with us, I am grateful and thankful for all of you!

Thanks guys!

2013

A simple manifesto for 2013

It has taken me way too long to create my new years resolutions.  I have no idea what to say for 2013.  Of course, I want to lose weight, eat better, do amazing things!  But lets be honest, these goals to simplify, be inspired, be original, work hard, and enjoy fit me best!  So lets see what happens in 2013.  I would sure love to simplify and enjoy life.

One of my favorite shows lately...

New Girl!

I just love the tv show New Girl.  I love how awkward it is and how it explains my life through awkwardness perfectly.  Wish I could dress like Jess.

2012 was a great year for the Beckman family.  Sean got promoted and starting working at Darigold in South Seattle, WA.  I took a new position with the University of Idaho as a Regional Admissions Counselor.  I get the pleasure to work from home which is such a blessing.  We purchased our first home and got out of our apartment.  Got new cars.  I cannot wait and hope 2013 is amazing but a little slower.  We will see what the Lord has planned for us.  Get ready to watch!

New Years 2013!

Photo: Happy New Years at Anthony's in Bremerton.

Sean and I usually have a very causal New Years with friends/family or just ourselves.  Watching a movie or playing games.  This year we had the pleasure of going to Bremerton, taking a ferry and celebrating our pastors 40th birthday at Anthony's seafood restaurant.  We celebrated the new year with our friends and church family.  It was really fun to get all dressed up.  Plus, we took the 11:40 pm ferry back and could see the fireworks off of the Seattle space needle.  It was really fun and magical.  This will be one New Years, I will never forget!  Plus, my dress here was awesome and from Ross!  What a deal.  Stay tuned for 2013 resolutions.

Thanks for following!

This has been what I have looked like over Christmas and the days after.  I did dress up and look great for Christmas eve and Christmas (photos to come later) but other than that, I have literally lived in the flannel shirt I got for Christmas from my mom and my hair has looked like that.  I had the 26th off and did work the 27th and 28th but work from home.  So the motivation to look good: not there lol.  What do you look like when no one will see you?
